Twitter or Facebook? Why Not Have Both?

For many of us, the idea of maintaining a Twitter account alongside a Facebook account may sound a little too much work. But there ARE ways to make things easier when promoting your MLM business through social media. Here are some of them.

First of all, do you use Gmail? Then you might want to use iGoogle. It’s basically Google’s open-source home page offering for Google users. Aside from seeing your Gmail inbox at a glance, you can also add fun and useful apps, such as games, weather news, stock quotes, etc.

But for the purpose of social media marketing, I suggest you only add a few apps that will help your MLM business along. There are dozens of Facebook and Twitter apps that let you access your feeds from these social media sites right on your iGoogle page. This is great when having too many tabs open can drive you crazy. (It does to me.)

It doesn’t stop with Twitter and Facebook, either. If you have MySpace and LinkedIn profiles, there are iGoogle apps for those too.

If you prefer an independent program to help you stay updated with your Twitter and Facebook feeds, then I recommend TweetDeck. It’s a highly customizable program that also lets you search Twitter and Twitter access mentions and private messages. And yes, you can post status updates to both your Facebook and Twitter profiles at the same time.

If you have a blog and would like an instant “Tweet” to your followers telling them of your latest post, then you’ll likely appreciate TwitterFeed. It’s an online service that, once set up, will automatically post a 140-character or-less update on your Twitter profile as soon as your publish your latest article.

A few extra tips worth mentioning — try to make all your articles and updates, even if they ARE only 140 characters or less, as un-spammy as they can be. Remember that social media’s primary use isn’t to SELL your products/services — social media is meant to give your business a face, and to give you a means to touch base with your followers.

There are many other great pieces of 3rd-party software that can help you automate your micro-blogging and social media-related tasks, so keep learning and stay open to new programs in development. That way you’ll stay on top of the competition and enjoy a more rewarding connection with your customers and downlines.

What are your thoughts? Twitter and Facebook or just one or the other — put your comments below and let me know what your thoughts are.
